At last night’s April 2025 Cameron Station Community Association Board Meeting, the Cameron Station Civic Association provided updates on several important projects and issues that could impact our community. These updates reflect our commitment to ensuring Cameron Station's voice is heard and that the quality of life in our neighborhood is protected. Here’s what we’re working on:
Ben Brenman Bikeshare Station
The Civic Association successfully advocated for relocating the proposed Ben Brenman Park bikeshare station into the park and away from the street. On April 8, 2025, City staff confirmed that the bikeshare station will be placed within the park, adjacent to the intersection of Brenman Park Drive and Somervelle Street. We are pleased with this outcome and will continue to monitor final implementation to ensure the placement enhances safety and traffic flow.

Housing 2040 Master Plan
The Civic Association continues to monitor the Housing 2040 Master Plan, particularly concerns about zoning changes, density increases, and parking requirements near Cameron Station. On March 18, 2025, the City released draft housing principles and goals, with a public comment period that closed on April 20, 2025. Key draft principles focus on expanding affordable housing options, strengthening tenant protections, and supporting senior housing needs. We remain actively engaged and will submit comments where necessary as the City moves toward a public hearing later this year.

School Redistricting
The Civic Association is actively monitoring Alexandria City Public Schools’ (ACPS) redistricting proposals. Several initial proposals would have split Cameron Station and bused children to schools outside of walking distance. New plans were issued on April 22, 2024, and it looks as if these will keep Cameron Station students together at Tucker Elementary. We are preparing to submit comments to the ACPS Board ahead of their meeting on June 12, 2025, to advocate for keeping our community intact. Learn more about ACPS Redistricting.
West End High-Crash Intersection Safety Audits
The Civic Association is closely monitoring the City’s efforts to evaluate and redesign seven high-crash intersections, including South Van Dorn Street and South Pickett Street, and South Van Dorn Street and Edsall Road. These intersections have failed prior traffic studies and we are concerned that proposed changes could worsen congestion. The City conducted a public survey through April 28, 2025, and we will continue to track any recommendations and advocate for traffic solutions that maintain flow and safety.
