For the first time, and maybe last, edition of get to know your local celebrity, we are interviewing Bodhi, the 2026 Alexandria Library Duncan Dog of the Year, who is also a Cameron Station resident.

So, Bodhi, what made you decide to compete in such a prestigious contest?
Bodhi: My Mumma nominated me. She said I’ve never met a stranger, which is true. I love people and making friends everywhere I go.

Did you have a campaign manager, or did you just rely on your dashing good looks?
Bodhi: Both can be true. I had a few fans in my corner: I had a local contingent led by my Mumma and her friends at the Cameron Station club, and my dad led the effort wherever he goes for a really long time each workday. I also have fan club members at my local hangouts like Port City, shops, and a lot of the people and pups I met on my walks. I even had family in England supporting me. Between you and me, I found it all rather embarrassing, but since my parents were excited, I went along with it.

What’s your secret to being so popular?
Bodhi: My secret is two things. First thing is to be happy. I automatically think when I meet someone, they are my friend unless they prove me wrong. Mumma says I’m really good at bringing people together, I make people smile and they like to talk to Mumma about me. It’s a good way to break the ice she says.

Do you have a favorite outfit?
Bodhi: Well, I prefer my birthday suit, but I’m usually seen wearing my running shoes.

You say you are a runner. What other sports do you do?
Bodhi: Yes, Mumma doesn’t care I run faster without them, she says the shoes help with hot pavement, getting seeds in my hairy feet, and protects from all those gross chemicals you humans use. I am also an avid bike rider. As bikes aren’t designed for me, I get in a doggy backpack especially for me. I used to go in a pull-behind but after an accident I decided the backpack was more for me. I ride on my dad’s back primarily because Mumma says I nearly broke her; it’s just as well because dad goes faster and Mumma is so slow. She’s not allowed to go in front of me anyway.

It sounds like you have figured out life and enjoy every moment.
Bodhi: Yep, I even have a job that I love. Did you know I’m a working dog?  Many people don’t realize that because I’m so cute (not bragging if it’s true…). It makes it hard for strangers to resist petting me. Mumma says that’s why I have to wear ‘Don’t Pet’ patches. While people can’t ask why I work, let’s just say I have a very particular set of skills and some impressive certifications. An important thing to being happy is loving your work, and I really do. Learning and loving is my superpower.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. Any parting thoughts?
Bodhi: Thank you. While I am happy with the title “Alexandria Library Duncan Dog of the Year” I really think that every dog nominated is awesome; I know this because all dogs are awesome. I just got lucky because Cameron Station is filled with so many lovely people that saw potential in me.

Lastly, when you see someone, first think of them as a friend; turns out, most of the time, you will be right!
