There's a moment every Spring when you open a closet and think: how did all of this get here? If that moment hasn't hit yet, it's coming, and when it does, there’s good news: mark April 18 on your calendar.
Cameron Station's Community Yard Sale is back, and this year it's paired with a Community Shred Event and an on-site Goodwill drop-off, all in the same day. Sell what you can, shred what you should, donate the rest. With about a month to get ready, now is the perfect time to get started.
Residents sell from their own homes or set up on Brenman Park Drive, and a map of all participating households will be available for shoppers on the day of the event. QR codes posted throughout the neighborhood will link directly to the map, making it easy to find which homes are open for browsing. To make sure your home is on the map, watch for the sign-up sheet in The Connection. Event details for the shred event and Goodwill drop-off will be announced there as well.

Start now and make it easy on yourself
The easiest way to prepare is to start a box. Grab a bin or box, put it somewhere visible, and toss things in whenever you come across something you haven't touched in a year. By April 18, you might already have a full table's worth without doing a single dedicated purge session.
The items that tend to sell fastest: small kitchen appliances, books, kids' toys and games, decorative pieces, and gently used clothing. Sports gear collecting dust in the garage is always a warm-weather crowd favorite too.
Don't forget the shred event
While you're sorting, pull out any paperwork you've been meaning to deal with. Old bank statements, expired warranties, tax records from years past. The shred event is a secure, convenient way to clear out that drawer you've been avoiding. If it has your name or account numbers on it, set it aside and bring it on the 18th.
A Goodwill truck will be there after the sale
Whatever doesn't sell doesn't have to come back inside. Goodwill will be on site after the yard sale wraps up to take donations directly. Keep a small "donate" pile separate from your sell pile so you're ready to hand it off without a second trip.
A few other spring-cleaning ideas worth trying
On the home maintenance front: swap out your HVAC filters, test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and check your dryer vent if it's been a while. Small tasks now, fewer headaches later.
While you're in the spirit, don't forget your digital spaces. Take a few minutes to review your subscriptions: cancel what you're not using, and make sure the ones that matter, like your home security service, are active and up to date. Organize your photos, clear out old files, and unsubscribe from email lists that have gotten out of hand. A tidy inbox can feel just as satisfying as a clean closet.
You have exactly one month to sort so you can sell, shred, and donate your way into a fresh new season. The Yard Sale, Shred Event, and Goodwill drop-off are all lined up on April 18 to make it easy. Get ready to step into spring feeling lighter and ready for whatever the season brings. 🌷
