"Halloween is right around the corner. You can tell because all the stores are decked out for Christmas.”
– Stephen Colbert

Oct. 1  CD PLAYER DAY
Dear car manufacturers, please quit taking CD players out of the vehicles. Musicians are still selling CDs, and they're still available at every concert (and I have hundreds).

Oct. 3  WORLD CARD MAKING DAY
Check out the cards at a Cameron Cafe, made by our neighbor Nicole Gauvin (T/A: knerq). Beautifully crafted using the iris paper folding technique.

Oct. 4  NATIONAL TACO DAY
Based on online recommendations, you should try Guacádo Mexican Grill on Richmond Hwy, Taco Chinoz & Bar on Richmond Hwy, El Fogón on Telegraph Rd, and Mexcorner on N. West St in Old Town. Based on MY preferences, you should try Dos Jefes on Huntington Ave, and Helena's Mexican Restaurant on Telegraph Rd. So many in tacos, so little time!

Oct. 10  UNIVERSAL MUSIC DAY
The top three genres are Pop, Rock, and Hip Hop/Rap. The premier music venue in Alexandria, for live music, is the Birchmere. Also, check out the live jazz performances at Laporta's Restaurant. Consult your Cameron Station Friday Connection for info regarding upcoming live music (aka: CC LIVE!🎶) at Cameron Cafe.

Oct. 15  I LOVE LUCY DAY
This  iconic sitcom premiered in 1951. it was the first scripted program filmed in front of a live audience. If you have never seen it, "you got some splainin to do."

Oct. 16  NATIONAL SPORTS DAY
Just a friendly reminder that there does not seem to be an end to curling season: May 2026 - May 2027.

Oct. 17  WEAR SOMETHING GAUDY DAY
Step away from the ordinary, and wear your brightest, loudest, most flashy, and clashing wardrobe items! I  assumed the word was derived from Antoni Gaudí; Oh contraire! Gaudy comes from the Latin "gaudere", meaning to rejoice or delight in.

Oct. 18  INDULGE YOUR SWEET TOOTH ON CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE DAY
Maribeth's Bakery on Colvin St wins the prize!

Oct. 26  HOWL AT THE MOON DAY
inspired by the nighttime behavior of wolves, this expression has come to refer to the time and energy spent on hopeless tasks, or complaining about something you cannot change.
