March arrives like the weather it’s famous for, a little wild, a little wonderful, and never boring. This month brings a playful mix of comfort food, clever wordplay, hometown favorites, and even a few extraterrestrial possibilities. Thanks to Carla Besosa for gathering another thoughtful and spirited lineup of days to celebrate. Take a look and find your reason to march forth and enjoy something new.

"Our life is March weather, Savage and serene in one hour."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Mar. 2  REUBEN GRILL DAY

My choice is Aldo's Italian Kitchen. The meat is lean and the dressing has a nice kick.

Mar. 3  IF PETS HAD THUMBS DAY

This would lead to household mayhem, technological takeover, dietary independence, mischief, and control.

Mar. 4  MARCH FORTH AND DO SOMETHING DAY

March 4th is the only day that is also a sentence. This reminds me of my high school AP English teacher who ended every class with the directive, "Go forth and do good."

Mar. 5  NATIONAL CHEESE DOODLE DAY

Those celebrating will be caught orange-handed.

Mar. 6  NATIONAL DENTIST'S DAY

Get to know our Cameron Station dentist, Dr. Abdullah Tikreeti.

Mar. 9  NATIONAL NAPPING DAY

Did you know that napping can have cognitive, emotional, and physical benefits?

Mar. 10  MIDDLE NAME PRIDE DAY

Middle names are often familial and frequently unappreciated. Time to reframe that perception. Embrace and share your middle name. Look at Ralph WALDO Emerson! (OK... Carla MAXINE Besosa)

Mar. 13  JEWEL DAY

Put the local Gem & Jewelry Show on your calendar: May 15-17 (venue TBD). You'll experience sensory overload with ridiculously low prices.

Mar. 14  NATIONAL POTATO CHIP DAY

Potato chips are the number one snack food. Pennsylvania leads in the production of potato chips. Lay's is the most popular brand. Remember the iconic tagline from 1963, "Betcha can't eat just one!"

Mar. 20  EXTRATERRESTRIAL ABDUCTIONS DAY

Just to clarify, we are the would-be abductees in this scenario, not the abductors. Shall we schedule a field trip to Area 51? 👽

Mar. 25  PECAN DAY

Best to shop for pecans at Mom's Organic Market, or one of the Mediterranean markets in the area. My mother used pecans in her delicious Thanksgiving stuffing.

Mar. 29  NATIONAL MOM & POP BUSINESS OWNERS DAY

We have wonderful mom & pop shops in the area. Check out Frankie's Kitchen, Chili Wok, Ruthie's All-Day, Matt & Tony's, Della J's, Thai Lemon, Aldo's Italian Kitchen, Thanida Thai, and Ruby's Jamaican Kitchen (two-time winner of the Carpenter's Shelter Cook-Off), and our own Cameron Cafe, just to name a few.

Mar. 31  DÍA DEL TACO

My go-to places for tacos would be 2 Jefes  on Huntington Ave., and Helena's Mexican Restaurant on Telegraph Rd.
