8/1 INTERNATIONAL BEER DAY - Though the top selling imports areHeineken and Corona, I prefer Peroni (ITA), Pilsner Urquell (CZE), Pacífico (MEX), and Eggenberg (AUT)
8/2 NATIONAL CLOWN DAY - Coulrophobes beware!
8/3 GRAB SOME NUTS DAY - I'm not touching this one!
8/4 NATIONAL WHITE WINE DAY - Move beyond the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Grigio, and sample some Albariño, Grüner Veltliner, Verdejo, Fiano, and Torrontés.
8/5 NATIONAL UNDERWEAR DAY - This begs the question: What are you wearing the other 364 days of the year?
8/16 NATIONAL RUM DAY - Definitely Ron del Barrilito (Bayamón, PR). Sip, don't mix!
8/18 BAD POETRY DAY - Totally subjective! There is no such thing as bad poetry. That's why we have poetic license.
8/20 NATIONAL BACON LOVERS' DAY - You must try the BLT at IndoChen Old Town!
8/21 NATIONAL POETS DAY - In English, I'd go with T.S. Eliot (Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock); in Spanish, I'd go with Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz (Hombres Necios).
8/24 PLUTO DEMOTED DAY - In 2006, Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet. I thought poor Pluto should've been grandfathered-in.
8/28 BOW TIE DAY - The bow tie projects an image of confidence, style, and a willingness to stand out! I dedicate this day to the late Sheridan Besosa.
8/31 EAT OUTSIDE DAY - Summer is not a time when I am inclined to do so. However, I found a viable exception, which is the semi-enclosed patio at Silver Diner on King St. The overhead fans do the trick!
