NOMINEES SOUGHT FOR COMMUNITY SPIRIT AWARD
Do you know someone in the community who has devoted time and energy into beautifying a common area in Cameron Station? If you do, please nominate them for the first annual “Mark Pillow Community Spirit Award.” This new award is being introduced by the Common Area Committee to honor the memory of Mark Pillow – former resident and Cameron Station board member – who exemplified the spirit of this award. Common areas are not owned by individual property owners here in the community; these are areas maintained and owned by the community association and include the pocket parks.
For nominations, please submit name and address and how the individual has contributed time and energy towards beautifying a common area by e-mail to commonarea@cameronstation.org. Nominations will be accepted through Monday, October 2. The award ceremony, with refreshments, will be held on Sunday, October 22, 1-3pm, at the gazebo in Cameron Circle.
CONFUSION REIGNS OVER COMMUNITY SIGNAGE
In an attempt to enhance communication in Cameron Station and to provide residents with important information regarding community events, the Communications, Common Area and Cameron Club & Events committees have been discussing various options for signage in the neighborhood. These range from having no signs but relying on newsletter, flyers and e-mail blasts; to small, temporary signs at key entrances to the community; to a single, permanent, architecturally compatible sign in front of the Cameron Club or at some other convenient site. Covenants, costs and community input are all being considered as options are being developed. And contrary to rampant rumors, absolutely nothing has been decided yet, nor even proposed. If you would like to express your opinion about signage, you are welcome to e-mail the signage subcommittee at signcommittee@cameronstation.org. Once they have developed the options, the subcommittee will present them to the Board of Directors at one of their regular monthly meetings, which are open to all residents. The agenda for each meeting is posted in advance on the Cameron Station website.
BRENMAN PARK TOT LOT PROGRESS
The Alexandria Parks and Rec Department has submitted the SUP request and the Planning Commission will take up the issue at their September 7 meeting at 7:30 at City Hall, 301 King Street. City Council will discuss at their meeting on Saturday, September 16.
IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERS TAKE NOTE!
Many Cameron Station residents, including responsible pet owners, are in an uproar over owners who do not clean up after their dogs, and they are threatening to take photos of the scofflaws and report them. (Keeping your dog on a leash and cleaning up after your pet is a city ordinance, not just a Cameron Station regulation, and residents have been told this over and over again.) So if you are one of the non-compliant owners, you may want to clean up your act – literally – or be subject to fines, loss of Cameron Club privileges and having your photo displayed.
